The Basque Country
We are currently on holiday in South West France, where we have just spent 4 wonderful days in Biarritz, a small city in the heart of the Basque Country. Like always, we never stay put in one place and so we traveled through the countryside visiting the towns of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Bayonne in France and yesterday we hoped across the border to San Sebastian in Spain. My favourite place has to be Biarritz, it was a nice size city and had a really great ambiance. It was amusing being in a popular seaside resort off season. I could just imagine the place full of noisy tourists, spending the whole day on the beach, but this time we had the whole city all to ourselves. The proximity to Spain forced us across the border, 45 minutes south, to the city of San Sebastian. It had a real big city feel to it and the “La Concha” bay was right there, the best of both worlds! We even got to enjoy some Pintxos, the Basque version of tapas, all the bars and cafés in San Sebastian had these delicious tapas lined up from one end of the bar to the other! We have now moved north, just past Bordeaux, on the famous wine trail. During the next few days we will be hoping from château to château tasting some of the worlds best wines and visiting the grand city of Bordeaux. More photos from the past few days are on my Flickr photostream and lots more to come! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jordankestle/
